Re: Consumer Advertising Guidelines for Marketed
Health Products – Consultation Draft
Health Canada, in collaboration with Advertising Standards
Canada (ASC), has developed draft Consumer Advertising
Guidelines for Marketed Health Products (Guidelines).
These Guidelines, which replace and supersede Health
Canada’s 1990 Consumer Drug Advertising Guidelines,
are intended to help advertisers develop advertising
messages that meet all the relevant provisions of the
Food and Drugs Act and Regulations, the Natural Health
Products Regulations and other related Health Canada
Policies and Guidelines. The Guidelines apply to consumer-directed
advertising of nonprescription drugs, including natural
health products, for human use.
The Guidelines will form the basis upon which ASC
will review and approve advertising for nonprescription
drugs and natural health products. The Guidelines are
also intended to provide advertisers with the tools
to understand drug advertising principles before advertising
copy is developed and submitted for review to ASC.
Should you wish to provide comments on the Guidelines,
please do so by April 22, 2005, at guidelines@adstandards.com.
